SWBNO Offers Limited-Time Late Fee Waiver for Customers with Past-Due Balances
For Immediate Release
June 3, 2025

Customers can enroll in a payment plan today through August 31 to catch up without added fees

New Orleans, LA — The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) is giving customers with past-due balances a chance to get back on track this summer— without paying late fees. From now through August 31, customers who enroll in an interest-free PromisePay payment plan will have all late fees waived before their next billing cycle.

This limited-time promotion is available to residential, multi-family, and commercial customers with past-due balances of $50 or more. Plans are interest-free, flexible, and easy to set up online, giving new customers the ability to pay down what they owe over time — without surprise charges or penalties.

“We want to make it easier for our customers to catch up and stay current,” said M. Ron Spooner P.E., Interim Executive Director. “By waiving late fees and offering flexible, interest-free payment plans, we’re not just addressing immediate challenges — we’re investing in long-term solutions that support both our customers and the overall health of our utility system.”

Since launching its payment plan program in February 2024, more than 22,000 SWBNO customers have enrolled, and nearly 7,000 have already completed a plan and paid off their past-due balance. Nearly 90% of current plans are on track, and the program has helped recover over $15 million in payments, with nearly $24 million more currently in progress.

Customers who enroll during the summer waiver window will see late fees removed before their next bill, as long as they remain current on both their plan and new charges moving forward.
