About S&WB
Pretreatment
The Pretreatment Section is responsible for limiting the amount of pollutants from homes, commercial buildings and industrial facilities that are transported via a series of pipes, known as a collection system, to the treatment plant.
Stormwater
Stormwater is water that originates during precipitation events and snow/ice melt. Stormwater can soak into the soil (infiltrate), be held on the surface and evaporate, or runoff and end up in nearby rivers, lakes, or other water bodies (surface water).
Wastewater
Municipal wastewater is water that has been "used" (also called sewage) by a city or parish's residents. It is conveyed in a sanitary sewer system (separate from the stormwater drainage system) to a wastewater treatment plant. Sewage is treated at the wastewater treatment plant and discharged into receiving water.
Education and Outreach
Educational information for the general public regarding drinking water, wastewater, and drainage.
Report Environmental Concerns
Report an environmental concern to the appropriate agency.
Green Infrastructure
The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans is initiating the use of Green Infrastructure (GI) as an approach to maintain healthy waters, provide multiple environmental benefits, and support sustainable communities in New Orleans.
